Our Laboratory

Where performance is verified

The Unika laboratory, which has always been the company's technical heart, was renovated in 2025 with the inauguration of a new space dedicated to testing and measurements.
It provides our engineers with the tools to verify materials, assess performance, and support product development through direct testing and measurement.
For our customers, this means greater reliability, faster validation, and the assurance that every Unika cable is designed to perform safely and consistently — even under the most demanding conditions.

From prototype to product

Especially in the development of fully customized solutions, the laboratory plays a key role: it allows us to prototype, test, and fine-tune new constructions internally, reducing lead times and ensuring performance from the very first samples.

The laboratory performs a wide range of mechanical, electrical, chemical, and fire behavior tests — ensuring control, repeatability, and reliable data across the entire production process.

Types of tests

Below is an overview of the main types of tests we are equipped to perform internally:

Electrical Tests

  • Voltage withstand test (voltage test bench)
  • Electrical resistance test (Micrometer)
  • Capacitance and inductance test (RLC meter)
  • Insulation resistance test (Megohmmeter)
  • Verification of EMC shielding effectiveness and transmission properties of Ethernet cables (Network analyzer)

Mechanical and dimensional Tests

  • Mechanical properties of insulation and sheath (Dynamometer)
  • Accelerated aging in air, oil, or other chemical agents (Oven)
  • Stripping force (Dynamometer)
  • Cross-linking verification (Oven)
  • Low-temperature elongation/impact/bending tests (Cryostat)
  • Dimensional control (Profile Projector)

Fire behavior

  • Flame propagation (IEC, EN, UL/CSA, ISO)
  • Fire resistance (IEC, EN, BS)
  • Non-propagation of fire (IEC, EN)

Dynamic installation Testing

  • Drag chain testing
  • Alternate bending with two pulleys
  • Torsion testing up to ±360°
  • Cyclic bending (± 90°)

Chemical test of plastics

  • Melt Flow Index (MFI)
  • IR spectroscopy (FTIR)
  • Density measurement (Analytical Balance)

Testing as part of design

The laboratory is not a separate unit, but works closely with production, design, and research.
This integration shortens development cycles and increases precision — turning test data into tangible advantages for our clients: reliable performance, consistent quality, and complete confidence in every delivery.
